Nevertheless, during the 2023 offseason and season, the Packers also let go of numerous veteran players. Amidst these changes, one of those veterans secured a fresh contract this offseason.
Today, the Bills are taking action to reduce their expenses and comply with the salary cap.
In addition to releasing safety Jordan Poyer, cornerback Siran Neal, and offensive lineman Mitch Morse, the Bills intend to renegotiate cornerback Rasul Douglas’ contract.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, this adjustment will result in approximately $2.5 million in savings for the Bills against their salary cap.
Douglas, who joined the team in a trade from Green Bay, made a significant impact during his nine-game tenure with eight starts. He accumulated four interceptions, eight passes defended, 29 tackles, and a sack for Buffalo.
Shortly before the 2023 NFL Trade Deadline, the Packers traded cornerback Rasul Douglas to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a third-round draft pick in 2024.
At the time of the trade, there was some criticism due to the Packers’ limited depth in the secondary. Interestingly, the following offseason, the secondary remained a significant area of concern for the Packers.
Douglas wasted no time in making an impact for the Bills’ defense, swiftly establishing himself as a starter in their talented secondary unit.
